This planet seemed to become more and more chaotic by the day. Apparently unsatisfied with the extremes of people killing each other in wars and the fake violence in their media, there was some sort of televised event occuring in which people were pitted against each other as a medium of entertainment. Just when the world’s chaos was becoming boring and predictable, it had suddenly become interesting again.
Oh and it didn’t just stop there. It wasn’t enough to watch someone be skewered by the teeth of a great beast, apparently. You had to bet and egg on the victims cowering on the brink of life and death. Place your money on who would fall from the tightrope. It was sick and sadistic and wrong but that was what made it so right. And it had been a long time since 18 had seen anything more beautiful.

She let him circle her, interested in his analysis and watching carefully to see how he did it. It was nice to meet someone who was obviously intelligent, as from 18’s point of view it was not a regular occurrence, and it would be fun to see if he could prove himself. After the three minutes of watching each other were open, she listened eagerly, smiling wider at the correct answer.

“Then you are indeed very smart,” she nodded. “I am from Sesharrim, and they did send me here. You surely must be an alien creature too - no human is that keen of knowledge. I was told that they are barbarians and indeed most do not seem aware of an existence beyond their atmosphere. You do not act like them anyway. You are a true scientist if anything because you seem devoid of emotion and merely observe. Some may view it as cold, which is why I smile so often, but I do not find it cold at all. It is intelligent.”

“I appreciate your words, as that is the viewpoint I try to hold myself to. A scientist must be able to hold themselves to a professional level of neutrality. Though, admittedly, doing so when studying the inhabitants of this world is quite easy. I will never be closely associated with them, as I have always been an outside observer…” Huey explained. He chuckled softly, a hollow sound that had little true humor or mirth behind it. “Forgive me…I have a strong tendency towards rambling. I believe it is a byproduct of my analytical though process…”

“Perhaps, for my correct assumption, you may offer me an answer to one of my own questions…why have you come here? Are you simply traveling? A criminal? I know they send those here…or is there another reason?” the alien asked, once more leaning back in his seat and keeping his cold gaze on the android.

“I see nothing wrong with rambling,” she stated, her voice losing it’s kind quality as it reverted back to a state not unlike Huey’s, almost robotic and firmly spoken. Even the smile filtered away as she realised there was no need to keep up her friendly pretence or guise around the man. “My creator rambled and he was a very intelligent man. Descended from a sub-species of the Sesharrimian race’s ancestors that is not unlike Earth’s dogs, so the inventing and creativity was not even an expected quality. Perhaps that is how he got away with his revolution for so long.”

“I did not come here by choice,” she explained. “I was captured as a highly dangerous machine, which they tried to shut down. They could not. They tried to destroy me. They could not. They didn’t want word of revolutionary droids to get out so they tried to reprogramme me. They failed but I did not let them know it. I was sent to Earth to work for them but have no intention of doing so. I wish to revel in the downfall of a planet that is untouched by revolution. Sesharrim is too broken to properly enjoy creating chaos in. However, I find a school full of dangerous beings, whilst a good source of chaos, creates chaos without my input. It is just as boring.”

Golden eyes silently studied the girl for a few moments, already making assumptions and ideas. Like many of the schools, she appeared outwardly human. There was little to suggest what supernatural race or faction she came from, or anything else about her. Besides, perhaps, that she…

The smallest sliver of a smile appeared on his pale face. While a blank canvas was interesting, finding a creature he had not yet encountered in this environment was much more so. Androids, cyborgs, robots, any any other form of sufficiently advanced AI-technology was not new to him. Despite his scientific focus on biology and anatomy of living creatures, engineering and construction had always been fields he had both studied and enjoyed as well.

He rose to the challenge. Literally so, as he stood from the stone seat to more closely observe the android. For a few moments he stood in front of her, studying and quietly making assumptions and assessments. Then he moved around here, circling about Android 18 with quiet steps. He studied every inch of her, top to bottom. But there was nothing predatory to this study, nothing truly sinister to his observation. He was not now the mad scientist, looking for the point to slice with his scalpel. He was akin to an artist, appreciating and studying the tiny details and designs which helped explain the bigger picture.

After nearly three minutes of this study, Huey returned to his seat. “Sesharrim. Your design is very well-made, and would be indistinguishable from a normal human within the mundane community. And there are few in any worlds who have advanced their androids to such a level. However…there are more than one, and so such a thing became merely limiting. It did not provide a clear answer…” Huey explained, pausing briefly. “The answer lay in something that was not physical at all. Your voice, your language, your pronunciation. Sesharrim has a perfect grasp of the languages of this planet, and have possessed that insight for countless years. On this world, people have difficulty learning the languages of other countries. So it makes sense that learning the language of an entirely different world is exceedingly difficult, sometimes impossible. Except for a planet which has had that knowledge for a great deal of time. Only they would be able to manufacture such a piece of technology, program it with such a perfect understanding of one of the world’s languages, and send it here..” he answered.

Golden eyes silently studied the girl for a few moments, already making assumptions and ideas. Like many of the schools, she appeared outwardly human. There was little to suggest what supernatural race or faction she came from, or anything else about her. Besides, perhaps, that she would likely be considered aesthetically by the standards of some. He had never seen this particular person before, nor did her profile match any of the more infamous members of the student boy that he had been warned about. She was a blank canvas in his mind. And that, in a way, made her a point of interest.

Huey leaned forward slightly, golden eyes staring unblinkingly at her own. “Greetings. My name is Huey Laforet, and I don’t believe we are acquainted. Perhaps it is simply because I am a relatively new arrival here…” the alien explained, his tone devoid of any real emotion or fluctuations in volume. It was always the same mellow, almost dreary, monotone. And whether it was idle chatter or inquiring fascinating questions,  it never deviated from that single sound. “I instruct astrobiology, the study of life in space, at Lemuria University. And it is…very nice to meet you”

He brushed a lock of dark hair out of his gaze. “And what, may I ask, are you?”

She stood and listened to him politely, expression not changing from a smile as the computer that was her entire being whirred with extensive thoughts, eyes travelling quietly over him as she judged his body language and appearance. Only when he posed his question did her eyes dart back to his, her head tilting further than it had before with a slight furrow of her brows.

“Asking what someone is rather than who is an odd way of posing your query,” she stated with a smirk. “Although it has lead me to believe that perhaps you were aware of what I am, as you so aptly put it, before I could state it.” Straightening slightly, she nodded. “I am Revolutionary Bot #097.42 v18.0. However, many simply call me by the name Android 18, or indeed just 18 if they wish to shorten it further. The real trick, perhaps, would be if you could identify my planet of origin. You are an astrobiologist, after all.”
